Resumen

Hypertension is a disease with higher prevalence nowadays, being the cause of high mortality rate and having hereditary factors and daily habits as causes. L-arginine is an amino acid synthesized by the body which plays an important function especially in regard to heart and circulatory problems. The aim of this study was to investigate the behavior of blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) in an elderly hypertensive (60 years) before, during, and after physical test effort supplemented with L-arginine. Through a case study the participant performed two sessions of exercise at 40% of HR reserve a placebo and another session with L-arginine. The intensity was controlled by the speed at treadmill (3.8 mph), the scale of subjective perception of exertion (SPE) and HR. Was observed reduction in BP and HR when compared with placebo exercise. In conclusion L-arginine combined with body exercise, may have contributed for the decrease in BP and HR of the hypertension participant before, during, and after physical exercise.
