Resumen

The aim of the study is identify the relationship of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) with blood pressure in women in different age. We selected 202 women who underwent measurements of body mass, height, BMI, WC, systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). The association was assessed by Pearson correlation, with p <0.05. There was positive correlation between BMI, SBP and DBP at ages 20 to 40 years (r = 0.43 and r = 0.39, p <0.05) and 40 to 60 years(r = 0, 47 and r = 0.36, p <0.05), women aged over 60 years had significant association only in SBP (r = 0.37, p <0.05). The CC had significant correlation with the SBP and DBP at the age of 20 to 40 years (r = 0.34 and r = 0.34, p <0.05), 40 to 60 years (r = 0.50 and r = 0 , 38, p <0.05), and above 60 years (r = 0.39 and r = 0.37, p<0.05). Both BMI and WC correlated positively with SBP and DBP at the age groups 20 to 40 and 40 to 60 years, BMI was associated only with SBP, and CC was related to SBP and DBP.
