THE INVISIBILITY OF WOMEN DEPRIVED OF FREEDOM WHEREVER THEY ARE: ANALYSIS OF DATA FROM THE INTER-AMERICAN COMMISSION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND A LOOK AT THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL
Abstract
Women deprived of their liberty constitute a group in a vulnerable situation, marked by an intersectionality of vulnerabilities such as economic condition, gender, race, among others. In view of this, the present work is intended to analyze data presented by the InterAmerican Commission of Human Rights and also by the National and State Penitentiary Departments, Ministry of Justice and Public Security Secretariat of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, respectively, regarding the contingent female present in the country's prison establishments, especially in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, with the objective of, through the examination of collected data, understanding the vulnerabilities of women in prison situations in Latin America and Rio Grande do Sul, in a to understand the invisibility that plagues them in this environment. Considering the intersections between markers of vulnerability, reinforced by the environment in which they are segregated, the question arises: what does the data reveal about the invisibility of women deprived of their liberty in the Americas and in Rio Grande do Sul? To carry out the work, the deductive approach method is used, starting from the analysis of general data from Latin America to the specific situation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), as well as the procedural method and technique bibliographical research. In this way, the data presented by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on women incarcerated in Latin America will be analyzed and then interpreted on the female prison system also in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. In the end, it was concluded that The data highlights a situation of invisibility of these women under the gaze of the State, due to the lack of detailed data on the female prisoner population, especially in relation to those who present more than one vulnerable condition.Downloads
