The growing rise of populist leaders in Western democratic societies has been attracting attention from the legal community in view of its authoritarian aspect. The populist leader has been promoting the deterioration of democratic institutions, weakening them and creating polarity. The populism of the liberal states has been moving away from the traditional politics and extenuating the healthy development of constitutionalism. The leadership that arises in the Democratic state puts away Weber’s idea of domination and finds in populism the means to subvert democracy through populational yearnings that were without an answer. Thus, the objective of this research is to answer if the charismatic leader, under the populism bias, is one of the causes of democracy weakening in Western liberal societies of the 21st century. To do so, bibliographic research with an exploratory character and deductive method will be used, aiming to explore predefined concepts that are consistent with the purposed goal.
