This paper discusses the complex relations among experiences of work, education and occupational training programmes by young people from families of a low social and economic level. In research studies carried out in recent years, we have studied this age group in places as different as Novo Hamburgo in Brazil and Palma de Mallorca in Spain. We aim to show how these young people cope with occupational training experiences in the employment world and in schools, facing the dilemma of belonging and not belonging, finding how increasingly unstable the work situation is, and experiencing a strategy of inclusion in schools that generates alienation. We also reflect on their experiences of integration in socio-educational projects and how important these initiatives are for young people. Based on these experiences, we discuss non-school educational and training initiatives, and we explore the similarities and differences between theoretical and philosophical suppositions and methodological approaches to education and social education in Brazil and Spain.Downloads
