FREQUÊNCIA DE DIARREIA EM PACIENTES COM USO DE TERAPIA NUTRICIONAL ENTERAL: uma intervenção educativa

Introduction: Enteral nutrition is indicated when patients are totally or partially unable to receive food orally, or when this route does not meet at least 70% of their nutritional needs. However, the presence of intercurrences such as diarrhea can influence the amount of infused diet, causing possible damage to the objectives of nutritional therapy, making it necessary to standardize the protocols used in the management of this gastrointestinal manifestation. Objective: To carry out a multidisciplinary intervention through the prior diagnosis of diarrhea frequency in patients on Enteral Nutritional Therapy in a public hospital. Methods: This is an intervention research, encompassing the action research methodology, with quantitative and qualitative characteristics. The sample was composed of health professionals from a multiprofessional team of nursing, nutrition and medicine, working in hospital care. Data were collected through nutritional monitoring forms and conversation rounds with the participants. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: 30 professionals participated in the research and diarrhea rates of 20% and 16.66% were verified in the intensive care unit and medical clinic, respectively. The educational intervention involved the 30 professionals, who reported issues regarding the importance of appropriate conduct, communication among the team and ongoing education in servisse. Conclusion: The frequency of diarrhea was above the recommended target in both clinics evaluated and it was found that aspects related to continuing education can boost the completeness of the work, favoring the articulation between workers, thus expanding the resolutive capacity of services.
