Abstract

Abstract: This article discusses the importance of communicating bad news in the training of first-year residents in health programs, highlighting the multidisciplinary preceptorship approach in meetings with residents to develop patient bonding skills, empathy and effective communication. Training in these aspects is essential to improve care, promote the well-being of both the patient and the professionals involved, and face the challenges inherent in multidisciplinary practice. Method: first-year residents were invited to intentionally participate in conversation circles with preceptors, proposing dynamics about real and hypothetical cases through discussions on management skills, communication and bonding with patients and the multidisciplinary team. We also use teaching tools such as observation group/verbalization group, reflective portfolio, case-based discussion (simulation), feedback and self-assessment of humanistic qualities/professionalism skills and communication and counseling skills. Results: The meetings provide thoughts and development of skills and ethical attitudes applied to  multidisciplinary practice, including the improvement of communicating hard news. Conclusion: The multidisciplinary residency can expand fundamental interpersonal skills for effective communication and quality of comprehensive patient care
