Abstract

Introduction: Taekwondo is an ancient Korean martial art, a recognized and regulated Olympic combat sport that is characterized by an emphasis on dynamic kicking techniques from a mobile stance. Although one of the main focuses of this martial art is to train the body and mind to improve health, it has a relatively high incidence of sports injuries during training and competition. Objective: to investigate the incidence of the most affected injury sites in Taekwondo athletes and practitioners. Method: descriptive field research with a quantitative format of cross-sectional collection, Electronic Survey type, through the Google Forms platform, evaluating athletes and taekwondo practitioners affiliated to the Santa Catarina Taekwondo Federation (FCTKD). Results: out of 146 responses, 82 were considered valid after the exclusion criteria, the highest incidence of injury occurred in the foot, followed by the knee, leg, hand, and ankle, with greater prevalence in training rather than competitions, and a higher occurrence in athletes than in just practitioners, when carrying out attack movements. Closing remarks: the injury sites with the highest incidence in taekwondo athletes were in the lower limbs, focusing on the foot, knee, leg and ankle, as they use techniques such as kicks, spins and jumps in combat.
