INTERRACIAL ADOPTION IN THE STATE OF SANTA CATARINA: AN ANALYSIS OF SNA DATA AND THE CHALLENGES OF FORMING A MULTIRACIAL FAMILY
Abstract
The study covered in this article focuses on the analysis of interracial adoption as a significant mechanism to preserve the interests and right to family and community coexistence of children and adolescents in Brazil. When delimiting the topic, data from the National Adoption and Reception System (SNA) and the challenges faced in the formation of multiracial families through interracial adoption in the state of Santa Catarina were examined. The central problem of the research was formulated in the following question: what do the SNA data reveal, what are the possible obstacles to implementing interracial adoption in Santa Catarina and how can this institute contribute to the realization of the right to family life? and community? The most likely hypothesis suggests that obstacles to interracial adoption in Santa Catarina have their roots in racism rooted in society since colonial times and that awareness and responsibility, especially on the part of parents, in recognizing and respecting historical and cultural aspects of the black child, can represent essential ways for interracial adoption to be seen as an ideal option to face the statistics that reveal the vulnerability of black children deprived of family power or institutionalized. The research was conducted using the deductive and monographic method and bibliographic and documentary research techniques. The results indicate that interracial adoption plays an essential role in the search for realizing the right to family and community life for black children and adolescents in the country. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt measures that humanize these individuals, including reflection on the role of whiteness in the fight against racism and the production of knowledge. These actions can contribute to rethinking the National Adoption System and its importance in the fight against racism for the benefit of black children and adolescents.Downloads
