Abstract

This article aims to study the impact of the lack of basic sanitation on the development of children and adolescents. The specific objectives are to contextualize the right to basic sanitation as an essential public service and regulated by Law No. 11,445/07 and Law 14,026/20, considering the right to health provided for in the 1988 Constitution; present the Brazilian context of basic sanitation between the years 2022 and 2024 and analyze the consequences of the lack of basic sanitation in the lives of children and adolescents, in addition to the impacts on their educational development. The guiding question of the work was: What are the main impacts of the lack of basic sanitation on the development of children and adolescents in Brazil? It was based on the hypothesis that the lack of basic sanitation structure is an interdisciplinary field and implies violations of the rights of children and adolescents, as it exposes them to the risk of contracting diseases, which can harm their development, in addition to cause other losses such as impaired learning. To develop the article, the deductive approach method, the monographic procedure method and bibliographic and documentary research techniques were used.
