Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, it should be justified in "Comments to the Editor".
  • The files for the submission are in .doc or .docx format (as long as they do not exceed 10MB).
  • All Internet page addresses (URLs) included in the text (eg http://www.ibict.br) are active and ready to click.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Guidelines for Authors, in the “About” section on the journal's website.
  • The metadata must be correctly included in the system, including all authors with their respective data, because when the article is published, the system automatically inserts the authors that are listed in the metadata, and there can be no changes later. There must be no pending issues in relation to the author(s) of the submission.
  • The author(s) informed their ORCID number in the submission metadata.
  • If this is your first submission, request the role of AUTHOR to the e-mail jorgesc@unisc.br. Inform the login and e-mail used in the registration so that the submission of manuscripts is allowed in the respective account.

Author Guidelines

Publication norms

To submit a manuscript it is necessary to register as a "reader", and then request the role of "author"
to the e-mail jorgesc@unisc.br, informing the login and the registered email. After that, the manuscripts can be submitted.

1. Article submission must be carried out through the journal's system, available at https://online.unisc.br/seer/index.php/agora/about

2. Ágora – Journal of History, Geography and Gastronomy is published every six months, and articles can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

3. Manuscripts received by Agora are submitted to the Similiarity Check text comparison tool, distributed by iThenticate. It is the obligation of the author(s) to guarantee the originality of the article and correctly reference information from other authors. If inappropriate conducts are confirmed, the author(s) involved will receive a notice of rejection and the paper will be archived.

4. Submitted articles are analyzed by the editors and, if it respects the norms for publication and it aligned with the thematic areas of interest of the journal, they follow a double-blind review process in which the identity of both the reviewer and the author(s), are hidden. 

5. The editors reserve the right to propose textual adjustments and to adapt them to the publication norms, while respecting the authors' style and opinions. Statements, opinions and concepts expressed in the articles are the sole responsibility of the author(s).

6. The articles must be original and unpublished and not under evaluation for publication in another journal; otherwise, justification must be provided to the editor.

7. Submissions may have a maximum of three authors, one of whom, must have a master's or doctoral degree. The participation of the same author and/or co-author is limited to one article per volume/year.

8. The submission file must be in .doc or .docx format.

9. URL addresses (websites/email addresses), mentioned throughout the text, must be informed in the References.

10. Articles must have their length dictated by the need for clarity in the explanation of the arguments, respecting the minimum limit of 15 and maximum of 25 pages, including tables, graphics, illustrations, notes and bibliographic references.

11. The text of the article must observe the following characteristics: A4 page, top margin of 3 cm, bottom margin of 2.5 cm, left margin of 3 cm, right margin of 2.5 cm, Calibri font, size 12 and spacing 1,2 between lines.

12. The article must not present identification of the authors on any page. The identification of the author(s) (education, maximum degree, institutional affiliation, full address, e-mail and ORCID) must be informed in metadata, in the online submission form. The absence of this data of the author(s) in the registration of the submission will imply in the rejection of the text.

13. The first page of the article must contain: the title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Abstracts must contain up to 250 words.

14. In the text, figures and tables must be presented with their respective titles (immediately above) and source (immediately below the figure). The expressions "Figure below/above" or "Table that follows" should not be used because their location can be changed during the editing process.

15. Short literal quotations, with less than three lines, must be integrated into the paragraph, enclosed in quotation marks. Literal citations of more than three lines must be highlighted in the text in a special paragraph and “indented” (4 cm to the right of the left margin, font size 10, single spacing).

16. Footnotes are allowed, but should be limited. The citations and references of authors in the text must comply with the current ABNT norms. The ABNT norms are available in: <https://www.ufpe.br/documents/40070/1837975/ABNT+NBR+6023+2018+%281%29.pdf/3021f721-5be8-4e6d-951b-fa354dc490ed>.

17. Bibliographic references must be listed at the end of the text, in alphabetical order.

18. Reviews of published (or re-edited) books will be accepted up to a maximum of one year, for a national edition, and a maximum of two years, for a foreign edition.

19. Reviews must have a maximum of five pages, respecting the same format as the articles. They must also present the complete reference of the analyzed work.

20. The submission of works implies the assignment of copyright and publication rights to Agora - Journal of History, Geography and Gastronomy. It undertakes to inform authors about the relevance or otherwise of their publication.

21. The author(s) declare that the text is not subject to any conflicts of interest.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
