Call for Thematic Issue: “Global Geopolitics in the Current Historical Context”
Ágora – Journal of History, Geography and Gastronomy of UNISC (ISSN 1982 6737), selects unpublished articles to integrate the Thematic Issue “Global Geopolitics in the Current Historical Context”. Ágora receives original manuscripts in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
Geopolitics, understood as the international analysis and practice, defined in the geographic space, remains as a central element in contemporary times, given the permanence of the dispute over territories and resources between nations. The field, like other branches of knowledge, has gone through evolutions, transformations and questions, ranging from Mackinder's and Mahan's classical geopolitics, to Lacoste's and Tuathail's critical geopolitics.
In this context of theoretical-conceptual amplitude, we are interested in reflecting on the different considerations of geopolitics that help to understanding the main challenges, tensions and problems of the 21st century at the international level. Based on the inherent multidisciplinary nature of geopolitical studies, this Thematic Issue accepts works from the areas of History, Geography, International Relations, Political Science and similar. The scope involves Brazilian and foreign authors, in research that preferably (but not exclusively) contemplates the following topics:
1) The Chinese rise and its consequences for the international balance of power
2) The geopolitics of energy: oil, natural gas and the dispute over natural resources
3) Conflicts in North Africa and the Middle East: regional and extra-regional geopolitical rivalries
4) Russia and its relationship with the former Soviet space
5) The US and its role in global geopolitics
6) The “new threats”: cyber war, nuclear proliferation, terrorism, transnational organized crime
