Abstract

Background and Objectives: It is known that acquired syphilis, in the “gaúcho” epidemiological scenario, is a disease of extreme importance due to its high prevalence and rise. From this, the following work aims to review the measures used in the care of adult and elderly patients diagnosed with acquired syphilis and its epidemiology in the city of Porto Alegre / RS. Contents: According to data published in 2016 by the Ministry of Health, the growth of syphilis infection in adults and elderly individuals is in great expansion in Brazil. Through the achievements of the elderly in the last decades, the prolongation of sexual life is a point worth highlighting, besides the incentive to socialization and the lack of information on sexual health. Conclusion: Sexually transmitted infections grow in these two publics and more effective preventive measures in the field of public health are needed. Keywords: Syphilis. Communicable Diseases. Possui graduação em Medicina - Fundación Hector A. Barceló. Aprovou o concurso de Revalidação de Diploma pela UFRGS (2016). Mestre em Gerontologia Biomédica pela Escola de Medicina da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. Especialista em Saúde da Família pela Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre, e Geriatria Clínica pela Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto - POR em convênio com a Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. Atualmente exerce o cargo de Médico de Estratégia da Família (40h) pelo Instituto de Municipal de Estratégia de Saúde da Família (IMESF - Prefeitura Municipal de Porto Alegre), é docente convidado no Curso de Cuidadores de Idosos da Universidade Aberta da Terceira Idade (UNATI - PUCRS). É pesquisador participante dos seguintes grupos de pesquisa:Grupo de Envelhecimento e Prevenção (GERIPREVE), coordenado pelo prof. Dr. Newton Luiz Terra e Atenção Multiprofissional ao Longevo (AMPAL), coordenado pelo prof. phD Ângelo José Gonçalves Bós. Áreas de interesse: Geriatria & Gerontologia, Infectologia e Saúde Pública. Trabalha como Docente e pesquisador na PUCRS, Médico de Estratégia de Saúde da Família no IMESF - Porto Alegre/RS e plantonista da UPA de Viamão/RS.
