Epidemiological profile and transmission variables of People Living with HIV/AIDS in a municipality of the Brazilian Northeast.

Abstract

Objective: To provide the containment of the HIV transmission chain, early diagnosis and epidemiological profile of patients to know the main forms of HIV transmission. In this sense, the study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile and the variables of transmissibility of users with HIV/ AIDS in the city of Imperatriz-MA. Methodology: This is an observational cross-sectional study, data collection was performed from the analysis of user records registered in the CTA from 2017 to 2020. For data collection, a questionnaire with transmission variables and epidemiological characteristics of patients was used. Results: 2896 medical records were recorded and January 2017 to December 2020. Of these, 71.6% were male, 55.5% of the participants were between 21 and 40 years and 66.4% of Imperatriz - MA. The most prevalent type of exposure was sexual intercourse without a condom. Among the participants, 83.9% (n=177) were positive only for HIV. About 140 people with HIV had undetectable viral load (< 50 copies/ml) after 6 months using antiretroviral therapy, making it low transmissibility. Conclusions: We identified a decrease in HIV cases, especially between the period 2019 to 2020, due to the probable underreporting of cases in this interval and a decrease in the demand for diagnostic tests.  In addition, despite the increase in the number of cases in women, the public most affected remains, being young men and sexual intercourse without a condom as the main form of exposure.

Graduated in Nursing from the Federal University of Maranhão (1999). Specialist in Family Health (Federal University of Maranhão) and University Didactics (Faculdade Atenas Maranhense), Master’s degree by the Graduate Program of Environmental Sciences at the University of Taubaté - UNITAU, PhD in Biotechnology of Rede Nordeste - RENORBIO. Post-doctoral program in Electrical Engineering at UFMA. Associate Professor class C 40h of the Federal University of Maranhão, Coordination of the medical course, Member of the collegiate and scientific committee of the medical course of UFMA. Member of the Committee for the Investigation of Causes of Mortality from HIV/AIDS in the municipality of Imperatriz/MA. She worked as a tax nurse at COREN-MA and as a professor at the postgraduate course at the Instituto de Nordeste de Educação Superior de Pós-graduação - INESPO, TCC advisor at UNA-SUS. Coordinated four extension projects by PROEX-UFMA, is a collaborating member in other projects with PROEX funding, SIGPROJ/FAPEMA platform. He currently coordinates two extension projects with two fellows and two research projects with two PIBIC fellows. Coordination and organization of events approved by FAPEMA. Member of the Biological Information Processing Laboratory - PIB/UFMA. She has experience in the area of research with emphasis on: Communicable chronic diseases (HIV/AIDS) and non-communicable diseases, Public Health, epidemiological, bioengineering, health promotion.
