Abstract

Background and Objective: Among the respiratory diseases, acute infections are the main cause of consultation and hospitalization of children under five years. In the state of MatoGrosso (MT), these diseases were the leading causes of hospitalization in these children. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in children under two years in Rondonópolis (MT) between 1999 and 2014. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive study, with the data source the Information Department of the Unified Health System arising in the System health Information primary care, fed by units of primary health care. Time series analysis techniques were used and their models, and the integrated auto regressive models and moving averages were effective. After choosing the model that best represented the data, it was adopted criteria for choosing models such as Akaike Information Criterion, Bayesian Information Criterion and the mean squared error of forecast, proceeding with the prediction of cases for years to come. Results: The IRA occurrences are suggestive of high prevalence in recent years. They recorded a total of 83,465, with an annual average of 5216.56 cases. The years 2001 and 2002 had the highest number of cases: 9,458 and 8,137, respectively. Already in 2014, had the lowest number of cases (1637). Conclusion: There was a reduction in the number of cases of ARI over the years, which can be explained by better quality of health care, running promotion activities of health and prevention of this disease.
