Epidemiological characterization of students from public and private schools relative to asthma

Background and Objective: Currently the asthma has shown large differences in prevalence between countries and continents. The importance of environmental factors is different in each region of world, influencing the increasing frequency of asthma. The study found the prevalence of asthma in the 07 to 17 students and characterized the population in relation to epidemiological data. Method: a cross-sectional study in which it was evaluated 250 students by sociodemographic, clinical, smoking exposure and asthma history, by telephone interview. Results: 58,8% of students assessed were female and 28,4% showed obesity. The prevalence in students of disease of respiratory chronic was found in 22.8%, and of these was asthma 10%. Students with lung disease had higher frequency of family history (p=0,016). Conclusion: The findings in this study show that asthma and bronchitis are strongly related to family history and the frequency of lung diseases is high among children and adolescents.Downloads
