Prevalence of mammography, ultrasonography and biopsy in the municipality of Sinop, north of the State of Mato Grosso

Background and Objectives: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, and if diagnosed early, mostly has a good prognosis being the mammogram exam the main test for the early tracking of breast cancer due to its effectiveness and reliability. This study analyzed the prevalence of mammograms, ultrasounds and breast biopsies performed in the city of Sinop / MT in the period from 2011 to 2014. Methods: This is a documental, retrospective study with a quantitative approach. The data were collected from May to July 2015 through Sisreg reports (National Regulatory System), SisCan (Cancer Information System) and SisMama (Information System of Breast Cancer), through the Informatic Department of Technology from the Unified Health System (DataSus). Results: It was observed a total number of 1921 marked and 1208 confirmed for mammography examination, 717 marked and 544 confirmed exams for ultrasound and 48 marked and no biopsy confirmed for the period researched. It is observed a small number of scheduled exams, as well as low number of performed tests in relation to the number of assisted women for the exams. Conclusion: Therefore, studies of early screening coverage of breast cancer in the assisted areas by Primary Health Care are made necessary, to provide reflections on cancer control and also to investigate the factors associated with the small amount of the number of tests ordered and low adherence of women to achieve the scheduled exams.Downloads
