This paper addresses the discourse of organizations that represent journalists in the face of the problem of violence against these professionals in Brazil. We analysed thirty annual reports (2010 to 2019) from the following three organizations: 1) the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters; 2) the National Federation of Brazilian Journalists; and 3) ARTICLE 19. The analysis is based on the French Discourse Analysis (AD) approach, and triggers discursive positions and the effects of meaning towards violence. As a result, we identified “Violence against journalists” as a discursive formation, within which we recognized three subject positions (PS1, PS2 and PS3). PS1 “Organization” integrates positions, attribution of responsibility and recognition of weaknesses. PS2 “Journalism / journalist” develops the effects of meaning from the journalist and his/her activity. PS3 “Violence” focuses on what is said about the violations in order to silence professionals, and the State being the most responsible for such violence.
