The objective of this text was to understand the scenario of sound transformations and its possible psychosocial effects in the central region of São Luís -Maranhão in the northeastern region of Brazil. Based on changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, we present a discussion about the sonorities before and during the year 2020. We used qualitative methodology and data collection through on line questionnaire. As a research result, we observed a sound change that shifts from the everyday sounds of cars, street vendors and pedestrians to the silence and singing of birds.
