Here we defend a proposal of dialogue between the theories of the imaginary and mediatization, which historically do not dialogue, starting from a counterpoint to Durand's (1998) statements, for whom semiotics – matrix of mediatization – would be a structuralist and binary science for disregarding the human subjectivity in the production and reconfiguration of meanings. We argue that semiotics and mediatization focus on subjective and social aspects, which suggests the possibility of approximations between such theories and those of the imaginary.
