Representation of Florianópolis' cultural identity based on news about bobbin lacemakers

The study presents an analysis of the discourse in reference printed newspapers from Florianópolis-SC to identify the cultural representations of the city invoked by the media. It is theoretically situated within Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), in association with Cultural Studies. The article problematizes the treatment of print media, which seems to lead to the crystallization of a unique cultural heritage. The methodology involves analyzing the discourse from the newspapers O Estado and Diário Catarinense, in selected issues from 1995 and 2010. The results highlighted the role of journalistic discourse in producing hegemonic narratives about the city and its population.
