The purpose of this article is to deal with the matter of audiovisual adaptation as an intersemiotic phenomenon and of “cultural translation”, focusing on a genre whose historical trajectory is an example of the dynamics of the absorption, transformation, and recreation in the relationship between cinema and literature: the noir. Three Brazilian audiovisual pieces will be evaluated: the films A Grande Arte (The Great Art), by Walter Salles Jr., and Bufo & Spallanzani, by Flávio Tambellini; and the televised miniseries Agosto (August), directed by Paulo José.Downloads
