Description of protective factors related diseases in chronic elderly in rio grande do sul: analysis of research VIGITEL 2009-2010.

Backgound and Objectives: The epidemiology of Brazil has been changing the effect of urbanization and changes in lifestyle. Analyze the results of research as VIGITEL - Surveillance of Risk and Protective Factors for Chronic Diseases telephone interviews can contribute to the planning of actions in specific health. Objective: describe the protective factors related chronic diseases in the elderly using data provided by the survey VIGITEL the period 2009 to 2010, in Porto Alegre in southern Brazil. Methods: Secondary VIGITEL data relating to 2009-2010 available in TABNET DATASUS (online VIGITEL) system were analyzed. Results and discussion: We found one high prevalence of overweight among older women, 77.9%, low consumption of beans, 46% and only 8% of physical activity in leisure enough. Conclusions: In view of the data is in, we can observe the importance of access to nutritional guidelines, not only as a treatment but as prevention and maintenance of health.
