Abstract

This paper seeks to understand how the journalistic production operates and the implications of this operation in territorial representations, based on the dynamics of TV news production of national coverage. The sample for this article is the workings of RBS TV, a station in the state of Rio Grande do Sul affiliated with Rede Globo (the largest TV network in Brazil), as related to the coverage of the regions of Rio Grande do Sul for Rede Globo’s “Jornal Nacional” (national evening news). It is based on literature review and interviews with three journalists from RBS TV, held in 2011. The results point to the representation of a "specific territory" built in media discourse from stereotypes and folkloric brands.
