Contours and challenges of produtiva diversification in areas of cultivation of tobacco among rural youth in state territory

The tobacco production and productive diversification have gained ground and generated controversy in the contemporary challenges of rural development. In this sense, the article aims, from the reality of two cities in the state, the Tiger Brook and São Lourenço do Sul, to analyze the perception of young farmers dedicated to the production of tobacco, about the conditions and the future of their socio-productive activities in rural areas. The data that supported the study come from interviews with rural youth in both empirical universes cited. It was found that the diversification of actions show up inconsistent on the material and symbolic roots of tobacco production in old and new areas of cultivation. Despite the tobacco not project unique life among rural youth surveyed, reduced the portfolio of other options combined with the absence of specific public policies for this audience, ultimately determine the continuity of those in tobacco production.Downloads
