The objective of the article is to highlight practices and management in the production of horticultural crops in the Sertão do Apodi territory, in experiences that associate family farming with agroecology. One of the initiatives is to bring the novelties and innovations approach as a counterpoint to the exogenous models of modern agriculture, being an alternative for rural and regional development anchored in family agriculture. As methodological procedures, questionnaires were applied with family farmers that associate their agroecological production with the direct sale of their products, aiming information on agroecological production and food security. In view of this, the research revealed the need for family agriculture to adapt to the requirements of legislation for market insertion, where novelties and innovation in agroecological production must happen in order to respect the environment and enable food and nutritional security by building the relationship between farmers and consumers. Finally, despite the limitations, family farmers have significant potential for regional development, with the conversion of modern and productivist agriculture to agroecological systems.Downloads
