This paper has as central theme the methodological perspective known as Art Based Education Research (ABER). We contextualize ABER in the field of research and research in Education, we present the epistemological-methodological aspects that characterize it (HERNÁNDEZ, 2013; DIAS, 2013; IRWIN, 2013a; OLIVEIRA, 2013; BARONE; EISNER, 2006) and the implications of this perspective for research in the area of Education. Furthermore, the text goes deeper into the theme when addressing the A/r/tography, one of the ABER methods. In relation to the A/r/tography, we locate the reference points of studies in the international and national levels, their epistemological and methodological field, and the implications of the a/r/tographic practice in the context of ABER (DIAS, 2013; IRWIN, 2013a, 2013b; HERNÁNDEZ, 2013; OLIVEIRA, 2013; TOURINHO, 2013a, 2013b). In addition to providing theoretical support for the understanding of the characteristics and implications of this methodology for research in education, this work demonstrates that ABER has attracted the attention of scholars interested in new research methodologies and, if developed mainly through A/r/tography, is one of the ABER methods already systematized.Downloads
