Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a serious public health problem and stands out among chronic diseases due to the large number of deaths it causes. In this context, health education, through operative groups, can be considered one of the ways to reduce the consequences and sequelae resulting from this disease. Objective: Understand the importance of operative groups in Primary Health Care (PHC) for patients with type II DM, as well as the APS role in this practice. Methods: This is an integrative review study, the selection of studies was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Virtual Health Library (BVS), Ministry of Health Manuals and Google Scholar search, the search was carried out in August 2021. Results: The results show the implementation of health education as a tool that allows the construction of knowledge, considered a favorable strategy in the control of DM. In PHC, group activities have a direct impact on the services, with the involvement of the team and the patient, providing a bond of trust, and thus directly reflecting on self-care and the ability to promote changes in life habits, reducing the risks to the patient's health. DM Conclusion: It is concluded that the operative groups health education is essential for a comprehensive and effective health care, providing gains and better quality of life for the health of patients with DM.
