The present analysis aims at showing that the anonymous narrator of the short story “Se eu seria personagem” – included in Tutaméia (Terceiras Estórias) (1967), by João Guimarães Rosa – is an individual doubly double. His friend Titolívio Sérvulo and his beloved Orlanda are his complementary faces. With Titolívio, he forms a pair of intimates and rivals. Titolívio is the other that carries out his deeper aspirations. In relation to Orlanda, she is the female half that he lacks and the one he searches for anxiously. They form the necessary polarity to the achievement of love.Downloads
