The main objective of this article is to present the results of a teaching experience with an EFL material elaborated according to the notion of genre by Swales (1990) and Bhatia (1993), as well as some criteria presented by Ramos (2004) for preparing EFL materials. The participants of this study were 10 students from a public school in São Paulo. The results of this study suggest that the teaching material has reached its objective when trying to prepare these pupils for future uses of the genre, collaborating to make them more critical about the real objectives of these texts. Finally, the data suggest that the approach of language based on the notion of genre is capable to extend the knowledge of the pupils about the genre presented.Downloads
