Shared reading, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Language development, Systematic ReviewAbstract
This study systematically reviewed Brazilian studies on the practice of shared story reading in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), over the last 5 years. Peer-reviewed articles that reported procedural and outcome contributions and characteristics for language development were analyzed. After screening, six studies met the inclusion criteria for this review. These mostly focus on intervention studies in different contexts (school and clinical), shared reading instructions based on RECALL. Limitations regarding transparency regarding the type, time of sessions and materials used in the studies are presented. The implications of shared reading for the development of language skills in this population are discussed.
Keywords: Shared reading; ASD; Systematic review.
